Father Song 05:00
"you know dad, it's funny..." "what's funny?" "well, whenever we cook inside, mom always does the cooking, but whenever we cook outside, you always do it. how come?" "well it's sort of traditional i guess... you know they say a woman's place is in the home and, uh, i suppose as long as she's in the home she might as well be in the kitchen." i am my father's son no matter how far i go it's you i become i am my father's son no matter how far i go it's you i become now i can see you didn't want the responsibility i begged for closeness you gave me space i would love to blame you but there's no one here to blame why can't you hear me? why can't you see me anymore? do i need you near me? what did you raise me for, father? i am my father's son no matter how far i go it's you i become i am my father's son no matter how far i go it's you i become you weren't hard on me but you were hardly there why did you leave me alone to face the things that you couldn't bear? now I return to that old story when it's hard to look at you shove it down, layer it up, further, father, where are you? why can't you hear me? why can't you see me anymore? do i need you near me? what did you raise me for? i've seen you run from pain is that what a man does? is that what a man does? i've seen you hide your shame is that what a man does? is that what a man does? is that what a man does? (it's hard because you raised me) is that what a man does? (it's hard because you raised me) is that what a man does? (it's hard because you raised me) is that what a man does? there's no home in you anymore you closed that door long ago where did you go?

into the earth, into the tomb welcome to the womb... "welcome to the womb" aullo de luna, la noche estrellada bugambilia y magnolia, la tierra mojada canto de nube, susurro de otoño marea encendida, danzante retoño colores de estío, el canto del grillo orquidea callada, el llanto de un niño juego en el lodo, orilla de piedra silencio de polvo, poema de hiedra Y en el centro de todo en el centro de todo en el centro de todo en el centro del todo "my womb is a starry sky populated by pomegranate and plum trees. between my legs is a vivified forest of obscene magnolias. an uninhibited scent of life dances through her undergrowth, reminding the wise of a time when humans talked to mud and music was made by the light of neon moons. let it be known, she does not live in the dictionary. she speaks in hushed tones full of swallows, foxtails, and musk. the language is simple, a simple yes, a simple no. my womb is filled with larksong. her landscapes ache with the earthy giggle of moss and clay and if you listen closely, you'll hear the source of all song inside her cavernous silence. my womb is the center of the earth. she blackholes all of existence in her toothless mouth. at her doorstep, at the threshold, in brutal silence, she says, 'all those who enter must be willing to die'"

about

Welcome Down (2021) is a genre-bending concept album that follows one man's redemptive journey into the Underworld, where he encounters the divine feminine forces at the center of everything. This project, written and recorded during a five-month residency in Querétaro, Mexico, was created in solidarity with the global movement to end violence against women.
